During one of my longer layovers in Dubai, which was around 13 hours long, I was able to do a quick tour of the city. I had initially planned a week-long trip to Dubai that month but it hadn’t worked out for various reasons so I decided to postpone the trip. However, thanks to Emirates I was given a complementary hotel AND visa as a result of the transit time, giving me the opportunity to get a little taste of the city for next time! The hotel at which I stayed at, the Copthorne Hotel, provided extremely affordable tour options in the lobby. Due to time constraints I opted for the 2-hour tour which included a few of the top tourist highlights in the city. At the time I went, which was early January of 2019, the cost of this tour was just $30 USD! Definitely worth it. The tour set off at 6 AM sharp, and passed by the Al Farooq Omar bin Al Khattab mosque — located in one of the richest neighborhoods of Dubai. It then took us to Burj Al Arab to watch the sun rise over the beach, followed by driving past a couple palaces. The rest of the trip consisted of driving through the city and visiting a couple more city highlights including Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world), the Al Khazim Towers (the business twin towers of Dubai), Dubai Mall (the biggest mall in Dubai with over 1000 stores!) and the Atlantis on the Palm.
